Ensimmäiseksi uusi vetyverkosto voisi lähteä rakentumaan Kaakkois-Suomeen ja Perämeren rannikolle, arvioi valtion kaasuverkkoyhtiö Gasgrid Finland. Molemmilla alueilla on yrityksiä, joilla on pitkälle meneviä suunnitelmia vedyn hyödyntämiseksi.
Alueelliset putkistot voisivat syntyä Suomeen 2030-luvun alulla. Myöhemmin alueelliset verkostot yhdistyisivät valtakunnalliseksi verkoksi, joka puolestaan kytkeytyisi osaksi eurooppalaista vetyverkostoa joskus 2040-luvulla.
Kaasuverkkoyhtiöiden visiossa Euroopassa olisi vuonna 2040 Pohjois-Suomesta Espanjaan yltävä, lähes 40 000 kilometrin vetyverkosto. Etenkin Keski-Euroopassa verkosto rakentuisi pitkälti nykyisen maakaasuverkoston varaan, sillä vanhojen putkien muutostyöt tulisivat selvästi halvemmiksi kuin uusien putkien rakentaminen. Alan visiossa jopa 70 prosenttia verkostosta rakentuisi olemassa olevien putkien varaan.

Hynion currently operates Norway’s only public hydrogen station, at Høvik in Bærum outside Oslo. In addition, Hynion plans to open hydrogen stations in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Porsgrunn, Norway, during the first half of the year. Eight hydrogen stations are planned in Norway and Sweden during 2022. In the somewhat longer term, Hynion aims to establish a network of around 30 hydrogen stations in Scandinavia and Northern Europe.
At the end of March, the hydrogen company Hynion tried to raise NOK 200 million to be listed on the stock exchange. But despite the green wave that has washed over the market over the past year, they only ended up with 60 million kroner.
Hynion boss Ulf Hafseld stated that it was all a real peel and that they had been maximally unlucky with the timing.
