Eurooppa on huolestuttavasti monia muita talousalueita jäljessä 5g-datayhteysteknologian käyttöönotossa, totesi Nokian toimitusjohtaja Pekka Lundmark Elinkeinoelämän valtuuskunta EVA :n torstaisessa EU-seminaarissa.

Lundmarkin mukaan EU:n asukkaista ja liiketoiminnasta 25 prosenttia on 5g-verkon piirissä. Vastaava prosenttiosuus Yhdysvalloissa on 75 ja esimerkiksi Etelä-Koreassa 93. Myös Kiina on 5g-kattavuudessaan Eurooppaa edellä.

“Tämä voi tulla monelle yllätyksenä. Meidän täytyy kysyä itseltämme, miksi uusien teknologioiden käyttöönotto tapahtuu hitaammin nimenomaan Euroopassa.”

EU:ssa puheet tulevaisuuteen panostamisesta ovat aina olleet kauniita, mutta käytännössähän rahaa on alusta asti ennen kaikea annettu maanviljelijöille ja pitkään sektori sai puolet EU:n budjetista. Vieläkin 2021 alkaneella budjetikaudella maatalous, joka vastaa yhdestä prosentista EU:n BKT:sta saa kolmasosan EU:n budjetista.

Eli hyvä, että Lundmark paasaa, mutta EU:ssa eturyhmät ovat kovia puolustamaan saavutettuja etuja ja poliitikot pelkäväät väkivaltaisia mielenosoituksia turuilla ja toreilla.

The baseband unit silicon provider is Marvell, although there’s a role for Intel there too. Combinations of SoCs, and the role each plays, is also likely to be important in the future.

“For Marvell the main area is L1 right now, which is the closest you get to the hardware and where we had the FPGA in the past. L1 processing is of course fundamental. If you take things like eCPRI, beam forming that’s very L1 heavy. But even when you are talking about things like carrier aggregation at L3 there is still work to do on the L1 side. By having the SoC there, you make the L1 a non-bottleneck area, so it’s relatively easy work compared to what it might be on an FPGA.”

“There are different SoCS for L1, L2/L3 and transport, and Intel plays a role in there as well. And over time the roles will change. The secret sauce is how to get the most out of SoC partners when combining them together on a system level.

“When you’re doing your job well which we now believe we are, you are looking at what products you need three to four years into the future, which backtracks into what SoCs you need two years into the future so that you can productise baseband and radio software. That’s where engagements with SoC partners look beyond what current products you have.”

Nokia is also working with Broadcom on some future RF SoCs, Atkinson added.

Telekom Austria chose network equipment suppliers Nokia and Ericsson as partners in the rollout of the 5G networks in the markets of Bulgaria, Croatia, the Republic of Serbia and Slovenia.
• In Bulgaria, Nokia is building the radio network and Ericsson the core network, in Croatia Ericsson is responsible for both radio and core network, in Serbia and Slovenia Nokia is responsible for both radio and packt core network
• In Austria it was already announced in spring 2019, that Nokia is the chosen partner in the 5G rollout of both radio and core network domains

Kivasti Nokia on vienyt Ericssonia jonkin verran suuremman osuuden. Toki Nokialla vahva kumppanuus A1 kanssa, ja tämä on varmasti ohjannut asiaa.

Edit: Googlettaminen paljasti että Bulgariassa operaattorilla on ollut aiemmin Huaweita purkeissa.

Nokia expands 5G radio and core contract with A1 Telekom Austria Group into new markets

Nokia extends 5G RAN and Core solutions to Bulgaria, Serbia, and Slovenia
The deal continues Nokia’s long-standing partnership with A1 Telekom Austria Group

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that it has been selected by A1 Telekom Austria Group (A1) to extend its 5G footprint outside of Austria into Bulgaria, Serbia, and Slovenia. The multi-country single vendor deal will see Nokia provide 5G RAN solutions from its comprehensive AirScale portfolio to all three markets and 5G Standalone core network to Serbia and Slovenia. The deployment is already underway in Bulgaria and is expected to start imminently in all other markets.

Nokia is already providing comprehensive 5G coverage across Austria and will evolve its strategic partnership with A1 with this expanded deal. Nokia will provide equipment from its AirScale portfolio including 5G RAN and other Nokia AirScale radio access products which will deliver incredible speeds, connectivity, and capacity to their subscribers.

Nokia’s cloud-native 5G Standalone Core software leverages machine learning and artificial intelligence and will enable near zero-touch automation capabilities for A1 in Serbia and Slovenia to drive greater scale and reliability. Nokia’s open 5G Standalone Core architecture will also give A1 the flexibility to be responsive to market demands while controlling costs at a time of growing network complexity by streamlining operations and unlocking crucial capabilities, such as network slicing.

Nokia will support A1 in their efforts to cover all major populated communities as well as main roads within the next 5 years. The rollout will also offer innovative new services to consumers as well as vertical industries such as Industry 4.0. A1 is committed to continually improving and expanding its network infrastructure to maintain its position as market leader.

Nokia is a long-standing partner of A1 and had worked collaboratively to introduce 3G and 4G mobile networks as well as Austria’s largest fiber-optic network and multiple private wireless campus installations.

Nokian täysin omistama mutta itsenäisesti USA:ssa toimiva tytäryhtiö, SAC Wireless, painii tietomurron kanssa. 250GB dataa on pöllitty Chicagolaisyritykseltä Conti ransomwaren avulla. Yhtiön itsensä kertomana varastetuissa tiedoissa on mukana ainakin nykyisten ja entisten työntekijöiden henkilötietoja, mutta datan määrästä päätellen aika paljon muutakin.

Nokia myy asiakkailleen palveluna tietoturvaa. Ehkä tytäryhtiöllä ei ollut siihen varaa.

Conti ransomwaren takana oleva ryhmä, Wizard Spider, pyörittää operaatioitaan Putinlandiasta (Pietarista) käsin.

Nokia och Ericsson har fått i uppdrag av A1 Telekom Austria Group att rulla ut 5G-nätverk i Bulgarien, Serbien, Kroatien och Slovenien. Det framgår av ett pressmeddelande från den österrikiska telekomoperatören.

Uppdragen är uppdelade på följande. I Bulgarien ansvarar Nokia för utbyggnaden av radionätverket medan Ericsson jobbar på stamnätverket. I Serbien och Slovenien är Nokia ensamt ansvariga för båda uppdragen, och vice versa gäller för Ericsson i Kroatien.

De finansiella detaljerna hålls hemliga.
