Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced the launch of the Nokia Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Controller Software, a unique near-real-time software-based end-to-end platform that helps mobile operators monetize the existing backup batteries at base station sites. By seamlessly switching from grid power to backup batteries, operators can lower their energy costs in electricity spot markets, generate revenues in grid frequency balancing markets, and reduce their carbon emissions.

Jaahas. Onkohan näitä reguloitu maittain mitenkään? Ilmeisestikään ei ainakaan kovin tiukasti, kun tällaista ehdotetaan.
Tuntuu näin ensivaikutelmana todella nerokkaalta ainakin näin Suomen oloissa. Onkohan Nokialla patentti tähän ideaan, vai peesataanko tässä jotakin muuta toimijaa?
Niin, ainakin Suomessa sähköt voittopuolisesti katkeaa kovalla tuulella jolloin toisaalta sähkö on halpaa jolloin voisi siis olettaa, että tämä “voimalaitos” olisi yleensä katkoksen alkaessa latingissa vaikka sitä näinkin käytettäisiin.
Mutta kuinkahan pitkälle ajalle tätä varavoimaa on saatavilla tyypillisesti?

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced a new 5G outdoor fixed wireless access receiver designed to enhance broadband coverage for urban, suburban, and rural areas. The outdoor receiver allows operators to use low-cost mmWave spectrum to provide consistent, reliable, ultra-fast wireless broadband services in areas where fiber can be challenging to deploy.

Finland’s Nokia is undergoing a significant organisational restructuring of its India operation, eliminating key job profiles of the CFO, CTO and legal affairs head and creating three business groups (BGs) as part of cost-cutting moves likely resulting in around 250-odd job redundancies, people familiar with the matter said. The rejigs and job cuts—in line with global restructuring at the telecom equipment maker—come amid a weak India business environment in the face of reducing 5G capex spends by top telcos Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio as well as major customer Vodafone Idea’s continuing financial struggles.
Bulk of the job redundancies are believed to be in Nokia India’s sales and operations functions, with several senior managers, including account directors/account managers in the rank of general manager/assistant vice president likely impacted, people aware said. They added that some managers in Nokia India’s R&D units and global service delivery centres are also impacted, though there have been no cuts in the near-5,000-strong workforce of its Chennai manufacturing unit. Nokia India employs some 17,000 people across functions.
Kommentti: Intia on tietysti merkittävä kasvumarkkina, mutta silti 1,5% vähennys työvoimassa tuntuu erittäin vähäiseltä, jos todellakin n. 250 työntekijää saa kenkää. Toivottavasti se merkitsee, että Nokialla on kasvua luvassa ainakin NI:ssä ja CNS:ssä ja siksi työvoiman vähennyksiä ei tarvitse tehdä. Toisaalta Intiasta menee paljon myös vientiin, eli jos tuotanto Intiassa on edullisempaa kuin monessa muussa paikassa sekin voi olla syynä varsin vähäisille leikkauksille.

Tens of thousands of reports have been sent for AT&T - with hotspots in the south and east, Downdetector says.
Users say their phones are displaying the SOS message, leaving them unable to make calls or access services.
The cause is unclear. The BBC has approached a number of operators for comment.
AT&T is responding to customer complaints online but has not yet widespread acknowledged network problems.

Nokia announced today it is expanding its 6G commitment to India by partnering with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to jointly research 6G technologies and 6G use cases that will have a direct societal impact in India.
Nokia and IISc will work together in Nokia’s newly inaugurated 6G Lab in Bengaluru, where they will pursue three core areas of research: 6G radio technologies, 6G architecture and the application of machine learning into the 6G air interface.

En tiedä mikä syy on, mutta tukiasemaswapit tehdään tukiasema kerrallaan ja swapin aikana saattaa tulla ongelmia vanhan ja uuden tukiaseman inter-vendor toiminnallisuuden kanssa kun käyttäjä siirtyy esim Nokian tukiasemasta Ericssonin tukiasemaan. Osalla vendoreista tuo kahden tukiaseman välinen toiminnallisuus ei ole täysin yhteensopiva muiden vendoreiden kanssa.

Nokia meets final NTIA guidelines, full suite of Buy America-compliant products available by mid-2024

- Nokia commits to self-certify products and take necessary steps to be added to the National Telecommunications Information and Administration (NTIA) official list of certified “Buy America” compliant vendors
