"At the same time, this crisis also presents an opportunity. It’s a catalyst — a catalyst that will drive the investments we need to double-down on our clean energy goals and accelerate progress toward our net-zero emissions future.
That’s what the second part of this initiative is all about.
The United States and the European Union are going to work together to take concrete measures to reduce dependence on natural gas — period — and to maximize the available — the avail- — the availability and use of renewable energy.
We’re going to accelerate widespread adoption of energy-efficient technologies and equipment, like smart thermostats, the work — that work to — and work to electrify heating systems all across Europe.
We’re going to invest in innovative solutions and technologies to make the switch from fossil fuels.
And together, we’ll advance the use of clean and renewable hydrogen to reduce our carbon emissions.
This — these steps will increase energy security, economic security, and national security.
And we’re going to stand up a joint task force to implement these changes and drive progress that will be co-chaired by representatives from the White House and the President of the European Union’s team — Commission’s team."
Edit. @Alan_Cali joo, olet ihan oikeassa. Jotenkin vaan huvittaa tuo 5 vuoden fast act. Tokihan USAkin juuri lupasi 15 bcm lisää LNG:tä, joka käsittääkseni korvaa venälän kaasun määrän tälle vuodelle.
Yksi mikä ei omaan kaaliin uppoa, että Saksa ei suostu jatkamaan ydinvoimaloiden käyttöä edes muutamalla vuodella vaan edelleen haluaa roikkua venälän “halvoissa” fossiilisissa rahoittaen samalla sotaa. No mut en monesti muutenkaan ymmärrä saksalaisia.
Tyhjästä on paha nyhjästä.
The country needs more time to replace Russian deliveries, especially of natural gas, said Habeck. “We still have a way to go and we will only be able to say goodbye to Russian gas with a joint effort – the federal government, the states, local authorities, companies and private households together.”
The minister said the expansion of renewables, the consistent reduction of consumption at all levels, diversification and the rapid ramp-up of hydrogen are imperative for the country to be able to do without Russian gas by mid-2024.
Companies proposing more than $4 billion in investment have expressed interest in joining the NSW hydrogen hub scheme, a figure that illustrates the soaring interest in the zero emission technology.
NSW late last year invited expressions of interest for its $70 million development of hydrogen hubs in the Illawarra and Hunter regions, providing clean fuels for industry coming under intense pressure to decarbonise.
Amid heightened excitement over the sector, NSW has received private sector plans to develop up to 5900 megawatts of electrolyser capacity, more than eight times the state’s 700MW target.
“The market has spoken. This is an overwhelming level of commercial interest and it shows our policies are sending the right signals to energy investors, making NSW the go-to state for energy investment,” NSW state Treasurer and Energy Minister Matt Kean said.
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has indicated $20 million of funding has been allocated to build this renewable hydrogen refuelling superhighway.
“While this announcement is initially aimed at the trucking industry, it is a historic first step in preparing the broader transport sector for large-scale hydrogen use,” said FCAI chief executive, Tony Weber
speaking on Monday included Anna Shpitsberg, deputy assistant secretary for energy transformation at the U.S. Department of State.
Shpitsberg called hydrogen “a game-changing technology that speaks to a variety of other sources … because it can underpin nuclear, it can underpin gas, it can underpin renewables, it can clean a good portion of it and so can CCUS [carbon capture utilization and storage].”
“So for us, it’s making sure that the market has enough signals, it knows the regulatory environment will support the signals for current energy security,” she said.
“But we are sending, also, all the resources we can toward the transition. It’s why we’re putting billions of dollars into hydrogen R&D.”

GE and Uniper Collaborate on Decarbonisation Roadmap to Lower Emissions at Grain Power Plant in UK
GE continues to collaborate with Uniper to lower the carbon footprint of its power generation operations in Europe
GE’s hydrogen plant readiness assessment represents a significant step in Uniper’s Grain gas-fired power plant’s decarbonisation roadmap
Project will explore solutions to enable operations using blends of natural gas and hydrogen, with hydrogen accounting for up to 40% by volume, targeting the decarbonisation of Grain’s 1,365 megawatts gas-fired power plant with GE technology in the next decade
