As COVID-19 lockdown measures were implemented in March-April 2020, consumer and business behavioral changes transformed the internet’s shape and how people use it virtually overnight. Many networks experienced a year’s worth of traffic growth (30-50%) in just a few weeks. By September, traffic had stabilized at 20-30% above pre-pandemic levels, with further seasonal growth to come. From February to September, there was a 30% increase in video subscribers, a 23% increase in VPN end-points in the U.S., and a 40-50% increase in DDoS traffic.

Sori vaan, mutta ei kukaan ainakaan PK-seudulla katso edes, että mikä netti siellä kämpässä on, kun asuntoa ostaa.
Hyvin on markkinamiehet saaneet myytyä kuidun sinulle. Hullun hommaa maksaa pari tonnia kuidusta, jos ei pelaa jotain tietokonepelejä työkseen ja sillä pingillä olisi oikeasti väliä.
5G puhelimen järkevyys taas tällä hetkellä on hieman kyseenalaista.

Sanoppa muuta. Tuo pingi ongelmakin ratkeaa vuoden sisään kun SA 5G verkot tulevat kehiin.
40e/kk on ihan OK gigabitistä. Ja jos sen kaivurointi taloon maksaa pari tonnia, se nostaa talon arvoa saman verran.
Kuitu perille asti on uusissa taloissa (kaupungeissa ja esikaupunkialueilla) samanlainen perusasia kuin se että tönöön tulee sähköt ja viemäröinti. 5G “kiinteä” on sitten järkevämpi idea jos kuitua pitäisi vietää kilometritolkulla, mutta toisaalta 5G-tukiasemien kantavuus on sen verran rajoittunut että jos olet 5G-alueella, kuitu ei todennäköisesti ole kilometrien päässä.

Verizonin Hans Vestberg kehuu 5G Ultra-Wideband -verkkoa, joka on nyt saatavana 55 kaupungissa, 43 stadionilla ja 7 lentokentällä.
Mitä Vestberg ei mainitse, on se, että 5G Ultra-Widebandin kantama on noin 150 metriä. Ja sen 24 GHz: n ja 28 GHz: n kaistat pystyvät tuskin lähettämään ikkunalasin läpi.

Rohde & Schwarz has installed a private 5G network from Nokia at its plant in Teisnach, Germany. The network test company wants to run the rule over cellular-enabled Industry 4.0 applications in a dedicated 5G setup. Nokia is involved in the testing, too; the pair are looking to gain insights to optimise 5G for smart factories.
The network is running in the 3.7-3.8 GHz band in Germany, with a vertical enterprise licence from the local regulator, BNetzA. Rohde & Schwarz will also look to bring intelligence and automation to its own production processes, with a view to launch automated guided vehicles (AGV) and advanced robotics, and to validate its own network testing solutions, with a live view of 5G coverage, capacity and configuration parameters in a real factory environment.
The indoor deployment, which started in July, uses Nokia’s plug-and-play Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) solution. It covers an area of about 1,500 square metres, and comprises 5G gNodeBs in non-standalone (NSA) mode using the n78 frequency band at 3.4 GHz, supplemented by LTE as the anchor in frequency band 40 at 2.3 GHz.
Rohde & Schwarz and Nokia are using test solutions from the former to assess site acceptance and coverage, including its FPH handheld spectrum analyzer, the TSMx6 scanning receiver, Android smartphone-based network optimizer, and the 5G STS site testing solution.
Rohde & Schwarz commented: “5G introduces the possibility of faster and safer operations, as well as new capabilities and efficiencies in industrial processes. It also creates some degree of complexity and performance demands for the network. Industry 4.0 applications in particular create specific demands on communications technology with regard to latency, reliability and security.”
It said smart-factory deployments of industrial 5G should go through certain test phases, first. These include rollout preparation and spectrum clearance for a clean RF environment inside the factory, acceptance testing for correctly installed network infrastructure, coverage and performance testing, real-time service quality monitoring, and regulatory checks.

Olin aikaisemmin samaa mieltä, en enään.
Itsellä ollut kiinteä 4G vuosia, 100-120mbps tasaisesti eikä mitään tarvetta kaivattaa kuitua. Eikä ole muillakaan tällä alueella, DNA teetti kyselyn ja laihaksi jäi. 5G tulee sitten kun tulee SA-ulkopurkkeja, mielellään Nokialta.

Jossen nyt väärin ole ymmärtänyt, niin tuo tuleva T-Mobilelle menevä Nokian purkki tukisi myös ulkoviritelmiä ja SA:ta. Seuraillaan…

Samassa käsityksessä, ja toisaalta Nokian nykyisenkin FastMilen pitäisi tukea SA ta (ainakin jonkin version) ja oma käsitys on että siihenkin on jo olemassa ulkoyksikkö.
Mutta eiköhän sieltä tosiaan tule vielä jotain uutta, versiota ainakin.

Samaa mieltä. Itsellä tällä hetkellä omakotitalo tai tontti hakusessa. Kumpaakaan en huoli ellei kuitua tai nopeaa kaapelimodeemiyhteyttä ole saatavilla. Toki kyllä se 5G:kin joskus syrjäseuduille tulee.
Tämä T-Mobilen kommentointi on piristävää kun asioista puhutaan hyvin suoraan. ORAN ei ole nykyisellään heidän juttunsa - tavallaan riskiä ja työtä liikaa huomioiden mahdolliset säästöt joita ei välttämättä edes ole.
“Today, I buy a solution from an Ericsson or a Nokia or a Samsung; it’s warrantied. I have one neck to choke. If something goes wrong, I know where to go. In an O-RAN environment, you have to do a lot more heavy lifting as the operator,” he said. “O-RAN for me is interesting at this point in time, but there’s a host of unanswered questions around IP [intellectual property], around R&D, around system integration.”
“It’s not ready for prime time for us,” said T-Mobile’s Neville Ray at an investor event Tuesday. “For us, I know the fastest and quickest and most meaningful way I can roll out a 5G network at real pace is what we’re doing today. I’m not going to go and chase a bunch of capital efficiencies which I’m not sure exist at this point.”
