Telia ja Ericsson kehuivat Ruotsin uudella nopeusennätyksellä.

Now Telia, together with partner Ericsson, is breaking a new record with a full 2.2 Gbit / second in Telia’s public 5G network, a speed that was measured in central Stockholm via an iPhone 12.

  • Thanks to the 3.5 GHz band we acquired in the 5G auction, we and our partner Ericsson can now test what Swedish-developed 5G technology really stands for. Reaching this speed live in our network is an absolutely fantastic result, not least because it happens with a completely normal mobile. In other words, anyone with a 5G subscription from Telia can do the same thing, says Staffan Åkesson, network manager at Telia.

The Malaysian government has awarded Sweden’s Ericsson an 11 billion ringgit ($2.6 billion) contract to design and build its 5G telecommunications network, snubbing Chinese competitor Huawei Technologies.

In a statement on Thursday, Digital Nasional said Ericsson will handle the design and development of the country’s end-to-end 5G network. “Ericsson has undertaken to arrange to finance for the supply, delivery, and management of the entire 5G network,” Digital Nasional said. The agency said it will securitize future cash flows from its wholesale business via Islamic bonds to finance all other network operating expenses and repay all vendor financing arrangements.

Local media outlet The Edge reported in April that Digital Nasional – a Finance Ministry entity entrusted with owning and operating the 5G network – had invited eight vendors to participate in the tender: Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE, Cisco, NEC, Nokia, Samsung and FiberHome.

Isoa kapasiteettia vaativat ruuhkapaikat, kuten stadionit, kauppakeskukset ja juna-asemat, yhdistettynä Nokian teknologiaan ja millimetriaaltoihin vaikuttaa olevan Nokialle vahvaa aluetta.

Since 2019, a consortium comprising Orange, the French rail company SNCF and Nokia, together with the French national frequency agency (Agence nationale des fréquences — ANFR), has been experimenting with 5G performance in the 26 GHz frequency band, which is yet to be made available. The technological leap toward the millimeter wave bands is looking promising.

When it first launched, the experiment focused on performance testing using Sony mobile devices that support 26 GHz. Early testing on the ground revealed outstanding performance, with peak throughput of nearly 1.8 Gb/s. After a software update on the network and some optimization work, the downlink capacity even exceeded 4 Gb/s, and uplink capacity leveled at around 250 Mb/s.

“We also found that this frequency band provided coverage over a wider area than we expected. Despite observing the phenomenon whereby the signal is blocked, it can reach the terminal by bouncing off glass or metal walls. The ANFR, our collaborator on the project, also put in place measures confirming that the exposure levels are well below the limits permitted in France.”

Press Release

Nokia and TPG Telecom launch world’s first live 5G s tand a lone 700MHz service in Australia

  • TPG Telecom’s low band 5G standalone service to cover wide outdoor areas, as well as deep indoor urban environments
  • Nokia’s triple low band remote radio unit utilizes the operator’s 700MHz spectrum
  • Service is essential to connect anything and everything as part of the internet of things

5 July 2021

Sydney, Australia – Nokia and TPG Telecom today announced that they have switched on a live 5G standalone (SA) network in Australia on the 700MHz spectrum band – the first time this has happened in the world. Low band 5G coverage at 700MHz , which is the lowest 5G frequency band deployed in Australia with the largest range , will enable TPG T elecom to provide wide outdoor 5G services , as well as deep indoor 5G coverage in urban and suburban areas to its customers .

Under the partnership, Nokia is supplyingequipment from its latest ReefShark based AirScale product range including its unique triple band remote radio unit that supports 700, 850 and 900 MHz bands. The unit also supports 3G, 4G and 5G simultaneously across all TPGTelecom’s low-band frequencies. TPG Telecom’s 5G SA service is now successfully activated in parts of Sydney and this means that the operator’s customers will benefit from having 5G available in more places.

Low band 5G goes further outdoor and deeper into buildings than existing 5G deployments and will allow operators like TPG Telecom to bring 5G to even more customers.

Barry Kezi k , Executive General Manager Mobile and Fixed Networks at TPG Telecom , said: “We’re excited to be the first network in the world to realise the true potential of low band 5GSA at 700MHz. TPG Telecom’s low band 5G will expand our 5G coverage, supporting our goal of reaching 85% of the population in Australia’s top six cities by the end of the year and changing the way people and things connect to the TPGTelecom 5G network.”

Dr Robert Joyce, C hief T echnology O fficer at Nokia Oceania, said: “Nokia is proud to supportanother 5G world first. We have a long-standing partnership with TPG Telecom, and we havejointly developed our unique triple band radio solution specifically for them. Today we get to see the result of that joint effort and collaboration which will deliver premium wide area 5G SAcoverage for TPG Telecom and its customers.”

Erinomainen uutinen ja hyvä ajoitus! Nokia on luultavasti vahvoilla kiinalaisten operaattorien kilpailutuksissa.

Kyseessä on siis uuden tuoteperheen 700MHz laitteet:
“Nokia is supplying equipment from its latest ReefShark based AirScale product range including its unique triple band remote radio unit that supports 700, 850 and 900 MHz bands.”

Sattumoisin 1.7. kerrottiin, että kiinalainen CBN kilpailuttaa massiivisen lähes puolen miljoonan tukiaseman kaupan kyseisellä taajuudella ja TPG Telecomin verkko voi toimia hyvänä referenssinä.
“CBN’s network partner China Mobile is running the tender, which seeks the supply of 480,400 5G macro basestations in the 700 MHz band”

Nokialle spekuloidaan osuuksia:
" Phase 2 rollout
What kind of 5G radio projects might Nokia be able to win? Lum says phase one of China’s 5G rollout was largely about installing advanced “massive MIMO” radios in provincial capitals. For the next phase, the joint rollout done by China Mobile and China Broadcasting Network (CBN) is likely to focus on wide-area coverage using lower frequencies. “CBN is the sole owner of 700MHz spectrum in China and so they are probably going to roll out 300,000 or 400,000 base stations at 700MHz,” says Lum."

Ericsson on vaarassa menettää osuuksia Ruotsin blokattua kiinalaiset toimijat markkinoilta:
“While Ericsson is invited to various ongoing tender processes in China, the final outcome remains uncertain and it is the company’s current assessment that the risk has increased that Ericsson will in those tenders be allocated a significantly lower market share than its current market share,”

Kiinalaisista toimijat ovat tyypillisesti vahvoilla. Jos osuudet valuvat kasvavissa määrin Huaweilta ZTE:lle, niin se voi kieliä Huawein komponenttipulasta.
"Homegrown vendors Huawei and ZTE are usually assured the bulk of any work in China, but US sanctions mean Huawei no longer has access to high-end semiconductors.

A larger share of work for ZTE might indicate that Huawei’s stockpiles are starting to run low, with analysts warning it will run out of important chips in the coming months."

Kuten palstalla on aiemmin todettu, niin Huawei voi toki valmistaa laitteita “kakkosluokan komponenteilla”, mutta ne kuluttavat merkittävästi enemmän sähköä.
"“The impact on Huawei via the restrictions on TSMC cannot be understated,” said Ryan Koontz, managing director and sell-side analyst responsible for cloud and networking sector coverage at Rosenblatt Securities. “It affects 80% to 90% of the cutting edge strategic products produced by Huawei.”

TSMC’s nanometer-chip designs are critical for reducing costs and the power consumption of the 5G kit, according to Koontz. In a cost-competitive industry, “these are not factors that customers will want to backtrack on,” he said."

“A white paper from telecom equipment maker Huawei last year revealed that 5G base stations use up to three-and-a-half times more energy than 4G infrastructure.”

NOKIA NETWORKS BOSS DEFENDS BET ON 25G PON

While Tommi Uitto was fighting hard to recapture the mobile territory Nokia had lost, Guillén could feel relatively safe at the top of network infrastructure, a new division encompassing all things fixed, IP and optical. Already highly regarded for its expertise in all three areas, Nokia also remains the only big alternative to Huawei, a Chinese vendor that is increasingly out of favor in the West. Pandemic-era business is booming, too.

“We believe that we are several quarters ahead of the competition,” says Guillén. “The beauty is in the backward-compatibility – you can start deploying the new line termination cards in the OLTs [optical line terminals] to provide GPON or XGS-PON and then provide 25G PON wherever you need it.”

It is in 25G PON that Nokia has arguably made its biggest bet on the future development of fixed broadband. The technology is the latest addition to the point-to-multipoint family, using a single optical fiber to support numerous endpoints. As the label implies, it would support 25 Gbit/s of shared bandwidth, two and a half times more than XGS-PON, today’s highest-speed option. But it had controversial beginnings and there is a danger that the wider industry leapfrogs it altogether.

The kerfuffle happened early in 2020, when Huawei and some if its Chinese customers effectively blocked the standardization of 25G PON by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). They appeared to see it as a threat to their investment in and promotion of 50G PON as the standard that should follow XGS-PON and other 10Gbit/s options. Nokia duly stomped out of the ITU and started its own technology club – now called the 25GS-PON MSA (for multi-source agreement) Group.

Nokia is clearly banking on the opposite – that a market for 25Gbit/s broadband technology will have taken shape while 50G PON remains too expensive. “We firmly believe that 25G PON is going to be there for as long as needed until the lasers of 50G and 100G are economically feasible, and that is going to take time,” says Guillén.

25G PON can be deployed on the same hardware – thanks to Quillion – as GPON and XGS-PON. Operators would not have to install anything new, paying Nokia only for a software upgrade. “It is a very easy evolution path from 10G,” says Stefaan Vanhastel, the chief technology officer of Nokia’s fixed-line business. A shift to 50G PON from XGS-PON would require the installation of new equipment.

Yhdistin pari aikaisempaa viestiä liittyen odotuksiin soppareista Kiinassa. Lisäksi Lundmark on ilmaissut Nokian halukkuuden palata verkkotoimittajana Kiinan markkinoille. :muscle: :face_with_monocle:
