Gartner päivitti viime viikolla “maagista nelikenttäänsä”. Tässä arviossa on otettu huomioon valmistajien RAN, core, siirtoverkko ja infran palvelut eli kutakuinkin kaikki mahdollinen.

Nokia on hienosti mukana kolmen markkinajohtajan joukossa. Olen aiemmin käyttänyt Gartnerin palveluita vuosia ja arvostan heidän kykyään analysoida markkinaa ja tuoda esille tulevaisuuden trendejä perusteluineen. Tässä valossa pidän Nokian asemaa heidän arviossaan oikean suuntaisena. Mistä Nokia löytää viimeisen hypyn kohti teknologiajohtajien kärkeä? Siellähän se tähtäin pitää ilman muuta olla.

Ericsson is a Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company that offers services, software and infrastructure in information and communications technology for CSPs. Ericsson has long had a strong focus on 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)-based mobile networks, and it was one of the leaders in terms of numbers of LTE deals. Nokia is a Finnish multinational telecommunications and IT company. While Nokia’s telecom infrastructure business has grown through multiple acquisitions and mergers, such as Alcatel-Lucent, a new CEO took the helm of the company in August 2020 and announced a new operating model and strategy refresh. Its business focuses on mobile, fixed IP and optical networks, cloud, and network services, supported by patents and standards from Nokia Bell Labs. Nokia is one of the market leaders in terms of numbers of 4G LTE deals and is pursuing the same path with 5G contracts.

Olipa heti aamuun hyvä uutinen Puolasta. Tuollaisilla osuuksilla ja kestoilla kun saisi Eurooppalaisten operaattoreiden soppareita kauttaaltaan kasvattaisin Nokia-positiotani entisestään.

Nokialla homma pyörii ilman Uittoakin, mikä on tietenkin positiivinen asia. Uitto on twiittaillut maaliskuun 8. päivästä lähtien maanpuolustuskurssin (#239) tiimoilta.

Ei tuo maanpuolustaminen ihan kokopäivätyö taida olla, mutta arvostan silti. Varmasti kiireinen mies ja ehtii silti tällaiseenkin. Ehkä pieni breikki tekee hyvää ja kännykkäradiojututkin maittaa taas entistä paremmin. Pentagonissakin arvostavat varmasti 5G-soppareita viimeisteltäessä “lähestulkoon käytännön kokemusta”.

Vielä olisi vähän kiinniotettavaa kovimpiin kilpailijoihin …ja siitä sitten samantien ohi ja joukon kärkeen tottakai.

Nokia selected for Software Defined Network Controller trials for Vodafone’s fixed access network

First steps are proof-of-concept trials

Nokia today announced it has been solely selected to work with Vodafone
on the evolution of the software defined network manager and controller
(SDN-M&C)services for the company’s multi-access fixed network technology.

Under the agreement, both companies are conducting proof-of-concept trials in Europe. Based on the successful outcome of these trials, Vodafone and Nokia aim to deploy the technology more widely later this year.

Vodafone is one of the largest fixed access providers in Europe with 143 million marketable Next Generation Network (NGN) broadband homes. The SDN management and control functions will be used to simplify, automate, visualize, optimize and enhance Vodafone’s broadband networks, and support Vodafone’s strategy of providing network-as-a-platform (NaaP) and other customizable services.

Gavin Young, Head of Fixed Access Centre of Excellence at Vodafone, said: “We are driving simplification and automation throughout our network and IT systems across Europe and Africa to further improve the customer experience and support the growing number of connected devices. The last few years have proven that the resilience of economies depend on our ability to quickly respond to changing societal needs. Nokia’s Altiplano solution will enable us to help our customers adapt to new developments even quicker.”

Vodafone is using the Altiplano SDN-M&C to build a single-pane-of-glass controller to automate its network operations. Vodafone selected Altiplano for its unique capability to work across its multi-generational, multi-technology and multi-vendor access networks.

Sandy Motley, President, Fixed Networks at Nokia, said: “Our SDN-M&C platform is built with openness in mind. Nokia’s SDN Controller platform provides open and standardized APIs and leverages open source where applicable. The result is our Altiplano Access Controller can manage and control any SDN-native, disaggregated, legacy and third-party equipment and is highly customizable to suit operator needs now and in the future. In addition to the rich set of built-in applications our customers can add their own or third-party applications to customize and further automate the network.”

In September, Vodafone announced it is working with Nokia and other partners for new broadband standards to pave the way for faster, open broadband networks.

Tulevaisuus näyttää hyvälle, arvostuskertoimet alemmat kuin viimeisen 12 vuoden aikana, vipuvaikutus osakkeeseen arvostuskertoimien ja nousevan tulostason kautta.

Nokia is one of the 3 non-Chinese firms left in the 5G hardware arena, along with Ericson and Samsung. Ericson has recently become an extremely risky play due to its recent allegations by the Department of Justi ce. Nokia has essentially become the only viable stock with great value and good growth prospects in the 5G space.
Nokia stock is being traded at a discount right now with a P/E ratio of 16.3 against the communication equipment industry average of 19.44. Similarly, the P/S ratio of 1.2 and the P/B ratio of 1.54 are also significantly below industry averages of 3.9 and 8.44, respectively. Additionally, the average consensus price target of $7 per share exposes a significant 32.5% potential upside in the stock.

Olen Nokian osakesäästäjä, eli en seuraa aktiivisesti kurssin liikkeitä vaan hyväksyn nöyrästi että osaketta vedetään kymmenettä vuotta kölin ali. Parempia aikoja odotellessa.

Bongasin Kauppalehden osinkokalenterista, että Nokia maksaa vuoden 2021 tuloksestaan 2 sentin osakekohtaisen osingon touko-, elo- ja marraskuussa 2022. Viimeinen neljännes tälle vuodelle luvatusta 8 sentin osingosta tulee maksuun helmikuussa 2023.

Kysymys: Onko tuo nyt laitaa? Miksei Nokia voi maksaa kaikkea tämän kalenterivuoden puolella? Minun laskuopillani tämän vuoden osinko on 6 senttiä.

Joka yhtiön kassanhallinnalle helpompaa ja ehkä sijoittajan kannaltakin jatkuva osinko virtaa vs kertalumpsi (vaikutus kurssiin ?)

Jälleen kriittinen kirjoitus Open RANista. Sinänsä hyvästä artikkelista bongasin kuitenkin seuraavan kohdan, joka selittänee miksi t&k on saanut niin suuren painoarvon Lundmarkin johtamassa Nokiassa:

Muistutetaan vielä, että viime viikolla infraverkkojen johtaja Federico Guillén kertoi, että 41% hänen liiketoimintaryhmänsä henkilöstöstä on t&k-tehtävissä.

Minulle mielenkiintoisinta tämän vuoden Nokiassa on, pystyykö infra-verkot jatkamaan kasvua verrattain kovista vertailuluvuista huolimatta. Ja onko fixed networks ja ASN edelleen omilla kasvuluvuillaan. Q1 jo kertoo tästä paljon.

Jos koko Nokialle tulee parempi tai samanlainen vertailukelpoinen liikevoitto Q1:llä kuin viime vuonna (550 milj.), niin se on kova suoritus. Loppuvuoden tulokset lienee helpompi lyödä kuin Q1:sen väkivahva tulos viime vuodelta.

Pakko kyllä myös odottaa paranevaa suorituskykyä Cloud and Network Services -yksiköltä. Ainakin marginaalien suhteen.

Vielä mahtuu tähänkin päivään. Edit: Hetken mietin ja tämä on itse asiassa melkoisen hyvä uutinen. @Sinuhe1 kirjoittelit juuri Cloud and Network Servicen osalta odotusta paranevasta suorituskyvystä - tämä vaikuttaa hyvin mahdolliselta.

Kyllä varmaan jonkinmoista roolia tulee materiaalikustannusten nousu näyttelemään tuloksessa tänä vuonna, mutta eiköhän se tässä kevään aikana ala hahmottua miten maailma makaa ja pyörii.?
