Itse olen vähän yllättynyt, ettei Trump lähtenyt muuttamaan esim. kalenteria. USA:n perustuslaissahan sanotaan, että tammikuun 20. päivä pitää tehdä vallanvaihdos. Jos ei ole tammikuuta, eikä kalenterissa ole 20 päivää, niin muutosta ei voi tapahtua.

President-elect Biden has selected veteran diplomat William Burns as his nomi-nee for director of the Central Intelligence Agency. This is a good choice—an experienced and highly respected national-security expert. He will be an asset to Mr. Biden and could help restore bipartisan confi-dence in the agency he leads.
I write as a 19-year CIA veteran and a supporter of President Trump. I’m critical of Mr. Biden’s other picks for top national-security posts, most of who are unremarkable former Obama officials. But Mr. Burns served for 33 years in the Foreign Service and eventually was ambassador to Russia and deputy secre-tary of state. He also was a trusted aide to several secretaries of state in Republican and Democratic administrations. He has written critically of Presi-dent Trump and his foreign policy, but he has avoided the harsh anti-Trump partisanship of many career national security officials over the past four years.
With the selection of Mr. Burns, Mr. Biden shined light on two key issues in the national-security world. First, to be truly account-able to the American people and the president, the CIA needs to be led by an out-sider. Although many CIA officers will be disappointed that one of their own didn’t get the nod, Mr. Burns is well-known by the CIA workforce and will be well received.
Second, Mr. Biden and his advisers appear to recog-nize that the intelligence community has lost public trust after years of politiciz-ing intelligence, meddling in domestic politics, and violating the electronic privacy of Americans. The so-called whistleblower who initiated Mr. Trump’s impeachment in 2019, and the continuous spiteful criticism of Mr. Trump by former CIA Director John Brennan, undermined the agency’s reputation as a nonpartisan institution. This was no time to reward a Biden insider with the agency’s top job.

Taisi joku muukin hiljattain ihmetellä, miten tolloja poliitikkoja on huolehtimassa yhteisistä asioistamme.
Mutta Amerikassa kaikki on vielä suurempaa ja tollompaa. En tiedä pitäisikö tälle itkeä vai nauraa, mutta jos kyseisen puolueen tulevaisuus on Cruzin kaltaisten käsissä, ei hyvä heilu.

Off-topiciksi menee, mutta sanonpa vaan mielipiteeni herra Cruzista…
Tuo Cruz on mielestäni jenkkipolitiikoista se ehdottomasti kaikkein selkärangattomin. 2015 republikaanien esivaalikampanjan aikana “Lyin’ Ted”, joksi Trump häntä haukkui, oli myös ehdokkaana niinkuin luultavasti kaikki täällä muistavatkin.
Trump heitti tuolloin ilmoille väitteen että Tedin isä olisi osallistunut JFK:n murhaan. Rafael Cruz luonnollisesti pöyristyi tuosta syytöksestä ja haastattelussa ilmoitti pelkäävänsä maan tulevaisuuden puolesta jos Trump valittaisiin presidentiksi.
Lisäksi kun Trump hävisi Ted Cruzille Iowassa, Trump syytti Tediä laajamittaisesta huijauksesta.
“Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he stole it,” Trump (@realDonaldTrump) tweeted. “That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!”
Mutta kun Trump on syyttänyt Bidenia täsmälleen samasta asiasta vailla minkäänlaista todellisuuspohjaa, Cruz on asettunut hänen taakseen ja muutenkin asemoitunut hänen järkkymättömämmäksi kannattajakseen. Ja on sitä vieläkin.
Mahtaa isä-Cruz olla ylpeä pojastaan. Ei mulla muuta.

Näitä lukiessa mietityttää sekä poliitikot että äänestäjät. Ja palautuu mieleen presidenttiehdokas Stevensonin vastaus kannattajalleen presidenttikampanjan aikana:
Stevenson was the Illinois governor and future diplomat who became the Democratic nominee for president in 1952 and 1956, only to lose both elections to Dwight Eisenhower. The story goes that a supporter once approached him at a campaign rally and gushed, “Governor, every thinking person would be voting for you.”
Stevenson replied, “Madam, that is not enough. I need a majority.”

Juuri kun jo luulimme, että saamme jonkun aikaa olla mediarauhassa Trump-Biden-väännöstä, tulee huolestuttavia haastattelututkimustietoja Virginian yliopistolta. Siellä on nyt edustuksellinen demokratia lujilla, kun on saatu intoiltua (osin ulkoisella tuella) maa jakaantumaan kahteen toisiinsa luottamattomaan ryhmään. Lue ja hämmästy.

Onpa melkoisia tuloksia. En näiden tutkimustulosten valossa ole ihan varma, kannattaako siellä edes järjestää vaaleja.
