Teknologiayhtiö Wärtsilä on allekirjoittanut Royal Caribbean Group -laivanvarustamon kanssa viisivuotisen elinkaarisopimuksen, joka kattaa 37 yhtiön risteilyalusta. Sopimuksen tavoitteena on optimoida alusten moottoreiden suorituskyky, luotettavuus ja käytettävyys, taata alusten operatiivinen tehokkuus sekä nopeuttaa Royal Caribbeanin kestävyystavoitteiden toteutumista.
Elinkaarisopimuksen tarjoamat puitteet vähentävät suunnittelemattomien huoltojen ja kalliiden seisokkien riskiä ja parantavat alusten suorituskykyä. Tämä säästää polttoainetta ja vähentää päästöjä, jolloin alukset voivat toimia optimaalisesti ja samalla noudattaa sääntelymääräyksiä.
Sopimus kattaa määräaikaishuollot ja ennakoimattomat huollot sekä Wärtsilän Expert Insight -palvelun, jonka Wärtsilän maailmanlaajuinen Expertise Centre -asiantuntijaorganisaatio toteuttaa. Technology group Wärtsilä has again been contracted by Aqualectra, Curaҫao’s government owned utilities company, to provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction in support of the country’s decarbonisation programme. This latest order is for a new 38.4 MW power plant that will be capable of providing efficient grid balancing as the level of renewable energy in the system continues to increase. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q3 2024.
Delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment and construction of the power plant is being carried out on a fast-track basis, and the plant is expected to be fully operational by Q4 2025.
Aqualectra produces and distributes water and electricity to over 80,000 households and companies on Curaҫao Island. The company is an existing and valued Wärtsilä customer with three Wärtsilä engine power plants operating with a combined total of 16 Wärtsilä engines.
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of technology group Wärtsilä, will supply the cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for four new medium-sized gas carrier (MGC) vessels. The ships are being built at the Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in Shanghai for Greek operator Capital Gas Ship Management. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q3 2024.
Wärtsilä is the market leader in supplying cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for MGCs, and this order once again strengthens this position. The 40,000 cbm capacity vessels will transport and operate with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The Wärtsilä systems are designed to ensure safe and efficient operation with this category of cargo and fuel.
While Wärtsilä has worked closely with SOE for several years, these will be the first Wärtsilä cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for vessels operated by Capital Gas Ship Management.
The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yard commencing in March 2026.

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of technology group Wärtsilä, will supply reliquefaction systems for retrofit installation onboard floating storage regasification units (FSRUs) owned by Excelerate Energy, the world’s largest FSRU operator. The retrofit project will improve the environmental footprint of Excelerate Energy’s FSRU operations. The order is expected to be booked by Wärtsilä latest in Q4 2024.
The system to be delivered is Wärtsilä Gas Solutions Compact Reliq Double units, which is based on the reversed Brayton cycle technology. It is designed to reliquefy boil-off gas and return them back to the cargo tanks, thus eliminating emissions and saving cargo at the same time. The system is also fitted with the latest technology and applications to minimize maintenance and operational costs for the operator.
Delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled to begin in early 2026.

Technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply its latest carbon capture and storage-ready scrubber systems - CCS-Ready scrubbers - for three container ships owned by German operator Leonhardt & Blumberg. A CCS-Ready solution will assure Leonhardt & Blumberg that it has continued regulatory compliance for SOx emissions today and opens the door to a smooth CCS system adoption in the future. Following a number of newbuild orders for CCS-Ready scrubbers, this will be one of the first retrofit projects prepared for CCS in the marine industry. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q3 2024.
Technology group Wärtsilä will supply the engineering and equipment for a new power plant project to be installed in Madisonville, Kentucky, USA. The order has been placed by Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency (KYMEA) and was booked by Wärtsilä in Q3, 2024. When commissioned, the plant will provide the grid balancing capabilities necessary to allow the utility to increase its share of energy from renewable sources. The power plant will also protect KYMEA’s members from price volatility in electricity markets.
The KYMEA Energy Center I is a natural gas electric generating facility. The 75 MW plant will operate with four Wärtsilä 50SG engines running on natural gas. The fast starting and stopping feature of the engines will provide the flexibility and rapid response to fluctuations in the availability of wind and solar power.
KYMEA serves the current and future electric power and energy requirements of eleven Kentucky municipalities. The Energy Center is expected to be fully operational in spring 2027.

Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a renewal of its Operations & Maintenance (O&M) agreement covering the 105 MW power plant owned by Independent Power Producer Ndola Energy Company Ltd (NECL) in Zambia. The previous agreement had been in force since 2013. By ensuring the reliability and availability of the plant, NECL can meet its Power Purchase Agreement obligations with Zambia’s utility, ZESCO. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q2, 2024.
The plant operates with six Wärtsilä 32 engines and six Wärtsilä 32 twin turbochargers. Hydropower is the main source of electricity in Zambia. However, the country is facing an electricity shortage due to a devastating drought that has impacted hydropower generation. The NECL plant is, therefore, an important contributor to maintaining a reliable electricity supply.
Technology group Wärtsilä will supply the engines and auxiliary equipment for a power plant being installed at the Boto gold mine in Senegal. The order, which was booked by Wärtsilä in Q1 2024, has been placed by Africa Power Services (APS), the France based main contractor for the engineering, procurement and construction of the power plant. The mine has been recently acquired by Managem, an international mining group with operations in eight countries across Africa.
The 17 MW power plant will operate with six Wärtsilä 32 engines to be delivered on an engineered equipment (EEQ) basis.
The Wärtsilä 32 engine generating set has established a reputation for reliability during 30 years of successful operations, delivering more than 8,000 MW of energy to customers around the world. Its fast-starting flexibility supports the integration of intermittent supplies of renewable energy, such as wind and solar, into power systems by enabling efficient grid balancing.
The equipment deliveries are targeted to be completed by December 2024, and the plant is expected to be commissioned during Q1, 2025.
Technology group Wärtsilä will supply the Cargo Handling and Fuel Gas Supply systems for five new Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC) vessels. The order has been placed by Jiangnan Shipyard, and the ships are being built for Chinese owners. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q3, 2024.
The order follows a similar order for Cargo Handling and Fuel Gas Supply systems placed by the yard in 2023 for four VLECs. The new 99,000 m3 capacity VLECs are mainly designed to transport ethane, and will use ethane as fuel. As part of the Cargo Handling and Fuel Gas Supply systems scope, Wärtsilä will also provide basic and detailed engineering services, along with supervision and commissioning at the yard.
Delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment will commence in Q3 2026.

Technology group Wärtsilä continues to support Italy’s 2030 national energy plan and decarbonisation ambitions. In Q4 2023, the company booked an order to supply an 18.5 MW Wärtsilä 50SG gas engine to extend an existing plant operating with three Wärtsilä 50SG engines. These fast-starting engines provide crucial grid-balancing capability as Italy increases its share of renewable energy.
At the same time, Wärtsilä has signed five-year Guaranteed Asset Performance agreements covering seven Italian power plants participating in the country’s Capacity Market. The agreements were booked by Wärtsilä as order intake in February 2024. The power plants were taken into use in 2022 and 2023.
The plant extension, which is expected to be fully operational before the end of 2024, is considered a separate power unit by Terna, the Italian transmission system operator for the capacity market. It is required to be capable of operating for 2,000 hours per year on an on-call basis by Terna.
Wärtsilä’s Guarantee Asset Performance agreement solution is designed to ensure high efficiency, maximised uptime, reliability, and availability throughout the asset lifecycle.
